Born in Richmond California Artist David Gonzalez Creator of Homies began drawing comics in high school of barrio guys in his neighborhood. From there Gonzalez did a comic strip for Lowrider Magazine called “Hollywood” which he started to create all of his classic characters.

In 1998 Lowrider Sponsored Homies and the first series was created of plastic figures sold at super markets in machines. Gonzalez had some issues selling the product in the begining because the LAPD said it glorified gang life. Being the creative artist Gonzalez is he wrote up bios on all of his charecters and had them help keep kids from getting into gangs and trouble. The Homies returned to Chain Stores threw out California and Lowrider Magazine once again Sponsered the “Homies” for Series 2 which aso included Los Mijos series die cast cars, and posters. In 2004 Gonzalez released a toy line called “The Palermos”

based loosely on the Italian Mafia.Now there are many series and spin offs of the originals even a video game for Nintendo DS
