Pacific Festival x Cali Green

Mark your calendars for the first annual Pacific Fest Launch Party, September 4th and 5th! This premiere two day event will be showcasing over 30 of indie music’s top performers across 5 stages, both an inside and outside experience, hand selected food vendors (best bang for your buck!), VIP options and more…!!! This is just the beginning, the launch party is actually a prequel taste test of what’s to come at the 2011 Pacific Festival OC.

So why is Cali Green promoting this event? First off, we know it’s going to be a sick and want to share the experience with YOU! Second, Pacific Fest has roots in SB, as do we… some of those involved are Santa Barbara locals and dear friends so naturally we support them in any way we can. Third, it’s all about the music! Sneak peak into the lineup…

Day 1 (DJ / Electronic Vibe): Steve Aoki, the Sounds, Miami Horror, and more…
Day 2 (Reggae Vibe): Rebelution, the Expendables, the Aggrolites, and more…

Check it out! Matty from Cali Green gets interviewed by Kymm Wilson, Creator and Host of Ground Level Perspective. GLP is a show based out of Oakland, CA that interviews all walks of life, getting their views on current events and showcasing people and businesses that our up to something. It started off as a radio/podcast and as the followers continue to grow the show grows with them. The purpose is to educate and bring awareness to those who are doing good in their respective communities on a grass roots level (ground level), and empower others to do the same. As Kymm puts it “… from invisible to visible”, a philosophy I translate to create something from nothing… now get out there and be someone!

Here are some photos from the “Make it Funky – arts & music festival”. It was the second year for this China Town event largely put on by the Flock Shop, an independent boutique who supports the arts and handmade goods (clothing / accessories / etc). The whole scene was bursting with creativity from the vendors to the live arts to the live music. We had the please of meeting Nathan from the Hive Gallery who does amazing sculptures and paintings (*see the second picture below), copped a CD from the funky hip-hop crew Simple Citizens and our booth neighbor, Janie XY hooked up some hand made stuffed animals. Sinuous & the Blue Steps

If anyone remembers the Cali Green 1year event back in November then you’ll surely remember Sinuous, P-able & the Blue Steps. How can I best describe the sound? It’s Hip Hop blended with funky blues beats performed with live keys, guitar, bass, drums and a sax (or other wind instruments). This Friday, May 28th catch them again at Velvet Jones and be sure to get there early so you don’t miss any of the performers.. here’s the lineup.

Well, now you do! Come out to Anis’q'oyo Park in Isla Vista this Saturday, May 22, from noon to six o’clock PM for the 2010 Concert for the Coast! This free concert will feature local Santa Barbara bands that include Return of Charles, Soul Minded, Stick Figure, Sprout, and Thy Squid. With great live music, a surf raffle, and bonus – an alcohol permit – what could be a better way to spend your weekend than at a festival in support of cleaner oceans and better beaches? Hope to see you all out there!

Fresh Fruit Available at Santa Barbara Farmers Market

Now that I have your attention, let’s talk about what’s Dank and Delicious in California. Since the beginning of May, cherries and blueberries have been in season at the Santa Barbara Farmer’s Market. As recently as last week we have welcomed apricots and peaches into season locally.

We heard from a friend that there is a place just before Buellton where you can pick your own blueberries for a fraction of what they cost in the stores. After indulging in an almond butter and jelly sandwich made from Fat Uncle Farms and Harry’s Berries (found at Santa Barbara Farmer’s Market) we were off.

U-Pick Blueberries - Gaviota,CA

The trip took us about 35 minutes north of Santa Barbara. The drive up was beautiful, displaying amazing coastline and wild mustard plants. Just shy of Buellton, past Classic Organic Farm (another one of my spots) make a right and turn off the road when you see the sign “U-Pick Blueberries“. For $15 you can fill a pale about the size of a quart, plus you can eat the berries while you pick.

We think this is a great deal considering you can eat one $5 tray from the store in about five minutes. Another plus about blueberry picking at this location is that the property is amazing to walk on, it has a cool pond and huge oak trees that complete the scenery. We truly believe that you should check this place out. Buying local is an amazing thing for the community and we support it to the fullest. Please remember to eat well and keep Cali Green.

There are many benefits to buying local, less pollution because the product does not have to ship over seas, knowing who grows the product and being able to ask questions about it, keeping business in your community and money in your town, and the freshest possible product.

Spring Gathering – 2010

Last Saturday was the first “Spring Gathering” festival put on by Guerrilla Union in San Bernardino, CA and it was off the hook.. did anyone else make it to this event? We had such a blast, rolled out with at least 30 heads who repped Cali Green to the fullest and you know we’re going back next year. Among the vendors there was Cali Green of course, Nug Magazine, Sullen, Culture Mag and plenty of bomb food joints. There was a hookah lounge, Marijuana Expo with guest speakers Ed Rosenthal, Tommy Chong, B-Real and more. The show itself was CRAZY… SuperNat! Hed-pe! Fishbone! Rebelution! Kottonmouth Kings! Redman & Method Man! .. and special guest and host B-Real from Cypress Hill!! We woke up at 4am to set up early and got back at 4am.. a flawless day. So next time we invite you all to join us at a show you better be there. You can plan on Rock the Bells and Smoke Out coming this summer.

Special thanks to Guerrilla Union, B-Real, Enniss, Spidey and all the homies who came out to support.. we really do appreciate you making this happen. Catch you at the next show!
